the upper groundwater level within the unconfined, near-surface aquifer (not perched), where pore water pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure. For bioregional assessment (BA) purposes, the regional watertable is developed by combining, at the subregion or bioregion scale, the watertable from all the near-surface geological units (or layers) in which it occurs, so that impacts to water-dependent assets and ecosystems can be assessed. As the regional watertable is not a contiguous geological layer, water may not move freely through it.
